Join Dr. Brian Werner, University of Virginia’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery, for an overview of shoulder instability, exploring its anatomy, diagnosis, management, and recovery.

Brian Werner, MD

Assistant Professor, University of Virginia Department of Orthopedic Surgery

Dr. Brian Werner specializes in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. He has a robust research portfolio, with over 150 peer-reviewed publications and numerous national awards focused on clinical outcomes post-surgery, biomechanics, and cartilage repair. He served as a team physician for the New York Giants and the New York Red Bulls and currently serves as a team physician for James Madison University. 

He obtained his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Penn State and his medical degree from Wake Forest, followed by an orthopedic surgery residency, internship, and research fellowship at UVA. Dr. Werner honed his expertise with a sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York before returning to Charlottesville to join the UVA Department of Orthopedic Surgery.
